Our Story
In 2007 and 2008, founders Akobir and Faridun came to the United States to pursue their education. One of the greatest challenges they faced as students were finding housing. Dorms were full or too expensive, apartment managers wanted to lock in a one-year lease, classified ad web pages weren't secure and off-campus roommate matching was a disaster. Guess what? Hundreds and thousands of students are still going through the same challenges. They seized the opportunity to help students one by one, doing it the hard way – offline! By the time of its inception, the founding team had helped more than 10,000 students in 15 different states representing 30+ countries.
In June 2017, 4stay launched as an online marketplace to help even more students. It has been backed by some of the same Silicon Valley investors who invested in Dropbox, PayPal, and LendingClub.
